The team at Scarlett raced in the MSU Gran Fondo to raise money for skin cancer research this past Saturday, June 29th 2013.Team Scarlett registered for the forty mile ride.
Six miles into the ride after trying to get by the slower riders, Chris Timmer (Team Scarlett) locked up his brakes to avoid hitting the person in front of him before a turn and took a digger over the handle bars. He brushed him self off and was ready to continue until he realized he had a hurt shoulder. It did not look good! He faded out and got a ride to the ER.
The other riders James and Ryan (Team Scarlett) continued on and once again had to pass the slower riders. At just about the same time as catching up with the lead group James recognized and old colleague. After some chatter, they were informed that they missed the turn for the forty mile route about 6 miles back. They took a detour through the country of West Michigan and continued on with the course after a 12 mile detour. They finished the course and called Chris to check on his injury. He is now doing ok and is in a sling with a A/C shoulder separation. Team Scarlett raised over a thousand dollars for skin cancer research, and have vowed to be much more prepared next year. Get well soon Chris!
